Our Mission

The Humane Society of Yates County exists to increase the quality of life for companion animals in our community. We are a no-kill shelter which receives no county, state or federal funding, which is why support such as yours is so important.

Our Impact

357

animals adopted

2018 was a great year for adoptions! We had an average of at least one adoption every day we were open! With your help we hope to find homes for even more animals in 2019!

110+

Years Serving our community

The Humane Society of Yates County was founded in 1908 and remains dedicated to the initial mission of improving the quality of life for animals in our community.

364

animals taken in

In 2018 364 animals with nowhere to go were given food, shelter and medical attention by HSYC.

Our Programs

Our core belief is that every dog and cat in our community needs a home where he or she is loved, nurtured and respected. We provide a safe haven for pets without homes and help them find forever homes through our adoption process. Check out our available dogs and cats using the links below!

A primary concern is making the best match for our dogs to ensure their safety and happiness in their new homes. Dog adoptions require multiple visits before a dog goes home. During your visits we’ll help you and the dog assess whether you are a match for each other.

Not all animals in our community have happy homes. Some animals might be abandoned, others might not be able to make a move with their owners, and some are born in the wild. We are there for these animals, providing food, shelter and medical attention in the pursuit of a forever home

Not everyone in our community can afford to spay or neuter their pets. We are fierce advocates for low-income assistance to limit the number of homeless animals in our community.

Our stray cat Trap-Neuter-Return clinics help limit the number of stray animals in our community while enhancing their quality of life.

Get Involved

There are volunteer opportunities available for all ages, physical conditions, and interests. Volunteers can do anything from socializing the animals to training them, walking the dogs, cleaning & sanitizing the pet areas, grooming, washing & folding laundry, helping with fund raising events, working the front desk, lawn & gardening, to just about anything you can imagine!

Do you have an animal which needs to be spayed/neutered? Check out our community spay/neuter programs.

Front Desk Reception, Cat Socialization, Dog Walking, Housekeeping, and more. Get started by signing up for a volunteer orientation session!

We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and are completely dependent on our community for support and receive no government funding.
