                Hope Angel - adopted 6/28/08

Hi Everyone, Hope is doing wonderfully, she has been spayed and is up to date on her vaccinations. We went camping in July, she had allot of fun, loves to explore. Unfortunately we had allot of rain too, but she had her rain gear and was a trooper like the rest of us. Hope now weighs 17 lbs. she was 13.8 lbs. when I adopted her in June. She is such a sweetheart, we all love her so much. Hope enjoys going for walks, does very well on a leash, she has learned to sit and now we are working on shaking. Hope has become very friendly, loves to play and is truly a puppy at heart. many of her fears has passed. What a joy she has brought to my life, she has become my little side kick and goes pretty much everywhere I do. We will be making a visit over to see you soon, I can't wait for everyone to see her. Take care,

Hope Angel, & Kim

Hey, remember me!   My birth name was Spirit,

my adopted name was Lotsa Spirit

    now, I’ m just Lotsa

In case you have forgotten, or if you are younger than 4 years old, I was brought to the Shelter of Hope in my Mommy’s tummy, along with 9 brothers and sisters. When we were born, we lived together for several months, until all my family was adopted EXCEPT ME.

A nice older man who volunteered at the Shelter started coming to see me, and I followed him around as much as I could. Then his wife came one day with him, and the next thing I knew I was going home with them.

Well, it’ s worked out swell. He’s home with me all day long, while Mom goes to day work. He’s still able to get around pretty good, and we go for a daily walk, and often ride in the car. He does have some regular responsibilities (like collecting bottles and cans to be redeemed for money for the Shelter), and takes me with him whenever he can. Being a herding dog, when we’re home, I love to round up towels or my toys to get attention. Playing outdoors is the best fun – the colder the weather the better! Having an older Dad, I have to take it easy on him, but the best part about his being “older” and at home with me - Snacks and Naps. Boy, do I love both of those.

I have been back to the Shelter for visits, and every time I am there, I feel both sad and happy. I feel sorry for the dogs and cats there, but I know they get very, very good care. Only a few have to stay there a long time, but no one has to worry that they will be “put out” because of lack of space or length of stay. If they are really sick, or have a really bad temper, that’s something that makes them impossible to adopt out. Otherwise, the Staff and volunteers work hard to find them good homes.

So, everything is great with me. Things are going well at the Shelter, but Dad, being a worry wart, is afraid the Shelter may have to close its doors. They need to continually raise money to pay for all the things needed to care for the dogs and cats every day. They have fund raising events and ask for donations, but you know what the cost of Vet bills, dog and cat food, warm blankets, etc. are these days.

If there is room in your heart and home to adopt a pet, please consider doing it. If not, think of the dogs and cats the Shelter is caring for every day, and donate what you can – volunteer your time, donate supplies the Shelter needs, or send them a few dollars when you can.

Well, I’ m tired from all this writing. I think I’ll go find Dad, and see if he’s ready for a Nap on the couch – or maybe a Snack !!

A Holiday note from Sam!

Merry Christmas to my friends in Penn Yan                                        !

I like my new home here in Hilton. I’ve done alot of things since I left the shelter. I went to obedience school this summer and made some new friends.

My teacher said I had come a long way and was doing a great job, when our classes got over. I went camping this summer and my new “parents” tried to teach me to swim. I got scared!!!!  My new Aunt Jessie said maybe I have problems swimming because of my chopped off tail!!!!  I get in trouble when people come to visit and I jump all over them, I just get excited when people come to visit. There’s lots of squirrels around here for me to chase. Sometimes after supper we go for a walk and go to Abbotts for ice cream. I like that treat better than dog biscuits! Thanks for taking care of me while I was there with you. We hope you can use this Christmas gift. Merry Christmas!!!

Max Thanks Nancy!

Hi, my name is Max. I wasn't actually adopted from The Humane Society of Yates County, but thanks to Nancy Christensen at the YC shelter, I did find my "forever home". When my Mom was looking for a new puppy, and couldn't find one, Nancy got my Mom in contact with BuffaloPugs.Org, where I was adopted from. (I'm the cute one on the left)

I was 1st taken to in a shelter in West Virginia, where I was born. At the age of 6 weeks, I was transported to NY where I was in a foster home until I almost four months old! It was nice there, but I really wanted a permanent "forever home", like my sisters had.

I was so happy when I heard that I was being adopted! My foster Mom, Jackie, was both happy and sad for me. When my new Mom drove to pick me up in Liverpool, I hadn't even thought of the drive home. You see, I get car sick, and boy did I!!!

Mom tries to get me in the car for short rides now, hoping that I will get over my car sicken, but It hasn't worked yet. When it does, I plan on a ride up to the Humane Society of Yates County, so that I can see all the other dogs and thank Nancy personally.

I hope to see you soon, Nancy!

Betty and Winston

Greetings From Winston and Betty From Their New Home!

Winston here and if I sound jolly for me, it's because I have my own home now. Instead of all those noisy dogs, there is only one (fairly) quite black lab named Sarge. My person makes quite a full over him, I'm not sure why. Oh, well, as dogs go, he's OK. Guards my new person's bedroom door like we're gonna make off with her jewelry, but goes outside a lot. My person has bought toys and I'm having fun chasing them around. My favorite is a wand and strips of cloth. There mush be a bird hidden inside because every time I touch it, it starts chirping.
I start each morning off with wet food. I try to tell her that this type of food would be suitable for the rest of the day, but she just says something about being spoiled. I'm not spoiled. I was born to be pampered! Besides, I have several jobs. I keep the other animals in line and I guard the bathroom door when she takes a shower. I also drape myself over the back of the couch so she has eye candy to break up her routine. But my favorite job is curling up in her lap to keep her warm and bring her blood pressure down by allowing her to pet me.
I did mention other animals, so I suppose I ought to mention that Betty Spaghetti came to my home with me and now she wants to say a few words, so I'll sign off. It's nap time any ways.

Mine, Mine MINE!! I have a whole house I own now. I start the day by waking my person with a yowl. I keep her entertained by running from one end of the house to the other-a lot more fun than playing with those silly toys that Winston likes. Can you imagine-Winston chasing a catnip stuffed mouse around the house? Well he is a little bottom heavy. The exercise should help him get up on our person's lap easier. Speaking of exercise, I help our person get lotsa waist bends when she keeps taking me off counters, the top of her china cabinet, etc. I don't think she minds, she's always laughing. I'm just making sure she dusts everywhere. I've tried to get Sarge to play with me. He just looks down his nose at me, sighs and looks over at our person as if to say 'look what I have to put up with'. We all know he just loooooooves us. He's friendlier than Winston anyways. I can curl up with him but Winston won't even let me in a chair with him. That's OK. I have my favorite place, too. I just get up on the back of my person's easy chair on the fleece throw. I make sure I keep one paw on the back of her neck so she knows I'm there.

Yep. My house is pretty nice. It'll be perfect as soon as Winston and I persuade our person that it's wet food all the time for us. Sarge says forget it, we'll only get wet food in the morning. That's the way it's always been. Dogs are such pessimists. Wait'll he sees me work my charms.

Sarge

Sarge

To The Shelter:

When I told you I wanted a "middle-aged" dog who still had some pep and is housebroken.....kinda like me, only with 4 legs instead of 2, you brought Sarge out.

Sarge with his gray muzzle and gentle way seems his age at times (10). Yet, when my friends see him jumping and galloping at full speed, they can't believe he is ten.

He's a smart dog and quickly learned what was OK for him to do and what was out of bounds.

His jobs make him feel needed. He protects me from chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels. The birds are happy because they have less competition for the seed.

He lets me know when someone is at the door and keeps my feet warm by laying on them. Since he's a 90 lb. Black Lab, I'm grateful he hasn't decided to keep my lap warm. I might not get up until Spring.

Some people ask why I got an older dog. Sarge is housebroken and well trained. For me, health-wise, I couldn't keep up with an energetic puppy. Sarge senses when I'm low on energy and paces himself to me.

Sarge doesn't have a life span as long as a puppy's but as long as he is healthy, he'll have a home and love. I'd miss his sigh of contentment and the look of love he gives me daily.

I know you get many older dogs at the shelter. They make such good pets, I'm hoping you'll have tremendous success in placing them in good loving homes.

Sincerely,

Pat Carroll and Sarge

Lotsa Update

Hi!

My name is Lotsa, and its been awhile since I last reported. If you will recall, I was a Shelter pup, born July 4, 2004, and was adopted by a family in Penn Yan. My Dad volunteers at the Shelter, and saw me there with my 8 brothers and sisters When I was the last one left, I guess he felt really sorry for me and took me home.

In July of this year, my Mom and Dad went to visit their son in Hawaii. I stayed with a nice couple in Canandaigua that my Dad knew. I was there 3 weeks, which was a really long time – I thought after a while that I had been sent to a new home for good, but we finally all got back together in Penn Yan. The best part was that it was a really hot 3 weeks, and the family I stayed with had central air conditioning (we don’t have AC in my home in PY). It was sure better than staying in a kennel, and my Dad says it’s hard to find people that will take care of animals in their homes while the owners are away. He says he is going to start a small “hobby” of Pet Sitting – staying in owner’s homes with their pets while the owner is away. I think you can get more information on this from the Shelter.

I’m now 14 months old and everyone says that I look really beautiful. My black and white coat just shines because my family brushes me a lot, and feeds me good stuff to eat.

I go up to the Shelter with my Dad once in awhile to visit Chance and the gang, and although I have a good time playing while I’m there, I feel really bad when I leave to go home. I wish all the animals there had nice homes to go to at the end of the day.

So if you know of anyone looking for a furry companion, please send them up there to have a look. I know my family took on a big responsibility when they adopted me, but hopefully I’m not a pain in the butt all the time, and give them some laughs, too. I know they especially like my game of me bringing out the towels from the bathroom to the living room just as the 6:30 news starts on television. I’ve heard them say how impressed they are that I can tell time – or something like that.

If you haven’t been up to the Shelter lately, you’ll notice a freshly
painted reception area, and new landscaping around the house. They are
beginning to get too big for the building, and are talking of expanding. It will take lots of money, so fund raising is always an important topic. (I don’t know all this stuff myself, but I hear my Dad talking about it.)

One way they raise money is to collect empty bottles and cans for
recycling, so if you can save your empties and bring them to the Shelter once in awhile, that would really help.

The Shelter is always looking for donations of blankets, towels, and kitty liter. They also need people to be foster parents. If all the cages are filled, or a dog or cat has a special need, a place is needed to temporarily take the animal in until a cage is available, or a permanent home can be found. More information on this at the Shelter.

Well, I think it is time to eat, so I better go find Mom or Dad. They need me to keep track of those types of things, you know. Stop in at the Shelter when you can – they love to have visitors. The staff doesn’t mind it either.

If you can donate time, items or money, please keep the Shelter Of Hope (HSYC) in mind.

Poochie

Poochie

Hi, it's me Poochie. Here I am enjoying the outdoors with my Mom and big sister. I have a huge yard to play in.
I love to go outdoors. What fun to watch the squirrels! There are sooo many smells for me to investigate.
My Mom and Dad take me for walks...more smells!!
I didn't bark before I got my new home. But I do now. I've got to protect my new family.
I love to have my belly rubbed. It feels so good. Mom and Dad love me and tell me how pretty I am. I am happy here.

Samantha

Samantha

Isn't my human boy just the cutest! My name is Samantha, and I have made myself right at home with the nicest family. I am learning what it's like to play, and sit and stay. One thing that I just can't seem to get is why I can't bark at those silly joggers or kids on bikes! I suppose sooner or later they will understand and just walk past my yard. It takes a long time to train humans sometimes. But you know what is the best, my new humans brush me and comb me and have never never threatened to take me back to the shelter because my lovely long hair has clogged up their vacuum cleaner like my last owner did! Life is definitely good!

Margie

Margie

My name is Margie, and yes, I am a pit bull!!! I am also the most lovable and well behaved pet you can imagine. I love my forever family, and they love me. My only advice to you and other Pit Bulls is to never give up. The word will spread that we are not the vicious, mean creatures that we have been made out to be. Not all of us are trained by bad humans to be bad. We really have a sweet personality and are very smart. Please give us a chance. Get to know us, and you will find we make wonderful loyal pets.

Calli Seager, Companion of Ralph and Ruth Seager

Dear Furry Friends,

My name is Calli Seager but when I lived in your house it was Annie. I came to live with Ralph and Ruth Seager January 2003.

I am so happy here. I have lots to eat and drink. I even have a special glass of water on the coffee table in the living room, bathroom, and kitchen, where ever we spend time together.

I can do anything I want and love my Mom and Dad humans very much, and they love me with all their hearts and are so happy to have me living with them.

I sleep in between them every night as soon as they turn the lights out. Sometimes Mom says I crowd her, but it's so warm I stick tight to my space.

I'm a really curious cat. I have to inspect everything new or different. When they get groceries, I check them over. I've helped Dad peel apples and husk corn.

I have beautiful green eyes, one yellow ear and one grey ear, white paws and my whole tummy is furry and white. Mommie always tells me what a beautiful white belly I have and I get excited when she keeps telling me that. I'll be on my back and show off and Mom and Dad think it is so cute. They taught me to roly-roly-roly over and show my pretty belly. I get so excited, then all of a sudden-I've had enough of that and take off like a flash!

I'm so grateful for my safe and happy home that "we" are sending a donation to help the friends in your house.

As you can see, Mom wrote this for Calli. She (Calli) is such a joy to us that sometimes I don't know enough to quit talking and bragging about her.

Meow from Calli

Best Wishes to The Humane Society
